This is turning into that TV show Mr And Mrs, where couples who think they’re happily married fail to convince the audience they know anything about each other. And it all started so well.

Emma Bunton and Jamie Theakston – who’re being hailed as broadcasting’s new power couple thanks to their teaming up to present a radio show – are bona fide old mates.

Back in the day, when she was in the Spice Girls and he was presenting music shows like Live & Kicking, Top Of The Pops and The O Zone, their paths crossed constantly, thanks to the Spice Girls’ omnipresence on our TV screens.

Fast forward a few decades – to the point where they’re straddling 40 (he’s 41, she’s 37) and they’re discussing how they’re pretty much man and wife (professionally speaking).

Jamie has presented the Heart Breakfast show on the radio for years, but he only teamed up with Emma in January – although they arrive for our interview claiming they already feel like an old married couple.
Granted, they sometimes sound like one too. Emma claims they start every morning with a cuddle; Jamie says, ‘I think you mean a huddle.’

But it all falls apart when they can’t remember exactly when they first met. ‘You don’t remember the first time you saw moi?’ she says, mock-dejected. ‘Why don’t you remember our first time,’ Jamie quips. ‘Was it over that quickly?’

Emma does remember that she – and all the Spice Girls – had a big crush on Jamie, then known as something of a lothario.
‘I think we all fancied him. He was lovely and handsome and funny and, well, just Jamie.’

Given that Jamie’s love life at the time practically kept the gossip columnists in jobs (he dated, among others, model Erin O’Connor, actress Joely Richardson and All Saint Nicole Appleton), was there any hint of a romance between them?

‘Noooo!’ says Emma. ‘I do remember meeting him at some polo event once and saying hello. It was literally, “Oh hi, kiss, kiss…” The next day there was this big picture in the papers with the headline, “Jamie and Emma caught in a clinch”, making it look like we were together. It was bizarre.’

So there wasn’t even a flirtation? ‘Never. Jamie wishes – but he went for the wrong band!”’

Mel B has used her curves for a good cause, stripping off to promote a new breast cancer awareness campaign in the latest issue of Cosmopolitan magazine. She recreated Janet Jackson’s iconic Rolling Stone cover, with Stephen using his hands to protect her boobs. The shoot was taken to raise awareness of charity CoppaFeel! ahead of Breast Cancer Awareness month. Mel said:

I found a lump when I was 17 and freaked out. It turned out it was nothing but it terrified me. Ever since, I’ve always been one for checking, then double checking. I have three daughters and one stepdaughter so I’ll show them as they get older. My eldest, Phoenix, 13, does it already. I love boobs. Me and the other Spice Girls are always having a feel of each other’s – Geri came up behind me and grabbed mine the other day.

Posing in a swimsuit, Posh Spice looked like she was having the time of her life in a photoshoot inspired by screen goddess Liz.

Sultry Victoria Beckham leans back seductively as she harks back to the 1950s.

Posing in a swimsuit, Posh Spice looked like she was having the time of her life in a photoshoot inspired by screen goddess Liz Taylor.

The former Spice Girl has become one of the most influential women in style and recently launched her new collection at New York Fashion Week.

Her collections have even see her clothes crowed Designer Brand of the Year at the British Fashion Awards.

In a soft and feminine series of shots in a special edition of Harper’s Bazaar magazine – which are a major departure from her usual stern and statuesque image – the 37-year-old admits she couldn’t stop crying after scooping the coveted gong.

“When they read my name, I was genuinely not expecting it,” she says. “It was an out-of-body experience.

“It was like my heart was going to jump out of my body. I came offstage and said, ‘I cried three times, I didn’t thank the people I wanted to thank, I was really rubbish’.

“But I think people saw the real me – and the truth is, I would have felt much more comfortable in my pyjamas with the kids and David in a hotel watching it on TV.”

Also in the new interview Victoria reveals the secret behind her clothing collections, adding: “We always joke that we have this fabulously gorgeous 17-year-old model who is six-foot-whatever and then I say ‘OK, I’m going to put it on.

“I stand for the general public here. It’s how I work. I found it really difficult when I was pregnant and I couldn’t do that.

“It’s part of the process – I’ll stand here in my knickers and start draping fabric over myself. It was very hard when I didn’t have my body.”

Asked who she would like to be stuck in a lift with, she adds: “I’m quite obsessed with Tilda Swinton. I find her intriguing, very stylish, she clearly understands fashion.”

Bazaar was the first British glossy to celebrate Victoria Beckham’s metamorphosis from pop starlet to fashion force, and now for the second time she appears on our cover, as Jubilee fever fills the air.
For the May 2012 issue, dedicated to celebrating all that is great about Britain’s idiosyncratic cultural royalty, Victoria makes a fitting cover Queen.

Shot in L.A by Camilla Akrans, who describes Victoria as ‘an absolute sweetheart’, the super mother, business woman and fashion icon talks to Bazaar’s Deputy Editor about juggling her roles as fashion designer and super mum to three growing boys and new baby daughter Harper Seven, how she feels about her body and what it’s like to go to bed with David Beckham.

Victoria Beckham

Walking on sunshine…

In three years Victoria Beckham has established herself as a design force to be reckoned with. For The Whatever The Weather Issue, i-D hooked up with the popstar turned designer to eat cake and discuss her stellar spring/summer 12 collection, LA life, and Harper Seven, the best dressed baby in Hollywood. See a snapshot of the shoot and interview here and pick up a copy of The Whatever The Weather Issue to see it all in full.

“When I started it was all about the corset dress. That’s what people associated me with, and possibly if I’m honest a sign of my own insecurities as well. But the older I get and the more comfortable I am in my own skin, the more I realise that to look great and feel great I haven’t always got to wear something tight.”

“I’ve stood on many a red carpet and been photographed from every angle, so I know how important it is for a dress to be flattering.”

“I don’t follow fashion and I don’t follow trends, I just follow my instincts and think what do I want to wear? What am I feeling for next season?”

She brought little Harper into the world just last July, but Victoria Beckham has already posed for her first lingerie shoot – and she looks incredible.

The 37-year-old graces the March edition of Numero magazine in Japan in white corset underwear by Rochas which shows off her enviably toned and slim physique.

But astonishingly, considering how fantastic the fashion behemoth always looks, she has revealed that she’s always been too nervous to let husband David, 36 , watch her model.

When asked who would be in her fantasy front row, she replied: ‘My husband. David has never been to any of my shows as I’m incredibly nervous and I need to focus and concentrate, apart from him Tilda Swinton. She’s so striking and I would love to dress her. She’s incredible looking and I love that she seems so confident in herself she doesn’t feel the need to conform.’

She also discussed her vision for the future of her company, explaining: ‘We are researching retail and e-commerce opportunities as the moment. I rarely get chance to go out shopping, everything I do is online and I believe that will play a part of the future.’

But added: ‘Contrary to what people say I have no interest in doing a children’s line; there are lots of people doing that very well already.’
The mother-of-four strikes a sultry pose in a blue leather trench coat by Burberry on the cover of the magazine.

The designer’s outfit reveals a hint of black lingerie beneath and is unbuttoned to display her bare legs. Mrs Beckham has been given a fierce makeover with a straight, layered hairstyle with an eye-skimming fringe.

A shrinking Scary Spice talks to Sebastian van der Zwan

Admiring her newly svelte shape as she tries on a tight, bright bandage dress for our photo shoot, Melanie Brown is finally happy with what she sees in the mirror.

“Before, I wasn’t completely, 100 per cent comfortable looking at myself,” she confesses, “but now it feels good!”

The X Factor Australia judge and former Spice Girl tipped the scales at 75kg shortly after giving birth to her third daughter, Madison, in September.

Now, after 12 weeks on Jenny Craig and working out with her Fitness First trainer, Mel has lost 7.5 kilos, weighing in at 67.5kg.

Exactly halfway to her goal weight of 60kg, the feisty Brit says she’s relieved she no longer has to wear Spanx under every outfit.

“Everything just feels a lot tighter,” she laughs. “There’s much less jiggle! Before, there was jiggle all over. Now I’m just jiggling in the right places.”

A blindfolded David Beckham has been practising his keepy-uppy skills to promote Paralympic sport ahead of the London 2012 Olympics.
Beckham, the new face of Sainsbury’s Paralympics and healthy lifestyle campaign, donned a blindfold to kick off his new job as a frontman for the Active Kids campaign.

The 36-year-old former England captain and LA Galaxy star will be appearing in adverts for the London 2012 Paralympics sponsor.
The supermarket wants to stem the growth of obesity among children and also aims to get a million youngsters to try a Paralympic sport.
Beckham joins two-time Paralympic swimming champion Ellie Simmonds as an ambassador.

Sainsbury’s has donated more than £115 million worth of equipment to schools and sports clubs in an attempt to stem the growth of obesity and inactivity among children. It also aims to get more than a million children to try a Paralympic sport in its 1 Million Kids Challenge.
Adverts will feature Beckham encouraging more children to take up one of the sports.

The father-of-four said: “I am looking forward to working with Sainsbury’s to help UK kids have fun, become even more active and introduce them to Paralympic sport.”

The five-a-side football competition at the London 2012 Paralympics will be played by visually impaired athletes using a ball with a noise-making device inside. There will be eight teams battling for gold at the hockey centre in the Olympic Park.

What will David Beckham look like at 70? It’s hard to imagine anyone this handsome packing on 30 pounds, as elite athletes often do when their playing careers conclude, sagging around old-timer games and charity dinners in double chins and elastic waistbands. What could a couple decades do to that lustrous Beckham hair, which has provoked copycat manias of faux hawks and mohawks and meticulous crew cuts?

There’s some silver upstairs now—”Got my first gray a few years ago, and a couple more since we’ve had the little girl,” Beckham says, referring to his daughter, Harper, born in July, her name already commemorated with a cursive tattoo along Daddy’s collarbone. But does gray have a chance against him? If a thinning-haired Beckham were ever reduced to a bald-spot-covering combover, is there any doubt it would be the most stylish combover of all time?

Beckham is 36, and when he rises at his Los Angeles idyll with his pop-star-turned-serious-fashion-designer wife, Victoria, and their attractive brood of four, there are unfamiliar, nagging aches. “I definitely feel different than I did 10 years ago,” he says. In recent years he has endured knee trouble and a ruptured Achilles; not long ago, Beckham suffered a slight stress fracture of his spine. “It takes a while for the Achilles to warm up,” he admits. “Once I’ve had my coffee, I’m good.”

He smiles. It’s a humid afternoon, and the biggest soccer superstar of his generation is sitting in a windowless room in the basement of a New York City loft, dressed in slim gray jeans and a white T-shirt revealing the dark sleeves of tattoos on his forearms. There are the beginnings of wrinkles around his eyes and forehead, and his hair is parted neat and slicked to the left—Beckham as Don Draper.

The first time Beckham came to New York, he was 23 years old, a superstar for the planet’s most famous soccer club, Manchester United. “My wife [then-girlfriend] was playing at Madison Square Garden with the Spice Girls,” he says. The pair stayed at the Four Seasons and ordered Chinese takeout in a box, because that’s what Beckham thought people did when they came to New York City. He wandered around the city, largely unnoticed. He watched Victoria perform at the sold-out Garden, and at one point she pulled him aside and told him, “Oh, by the way, we’re pregnant.”

Now Beckham is in New York to play in the All-Star Game for Major League Soccer, the upstart outfit he joined in 2007 with wildly exaggerated rumors of a quarter-billion-dollar contract with the Los Angeles Galaxy and expectations he would glamorize an underappreciated sport in the United States. The early results were mixed—Beckham spent much of his early MLS career battling injuries and fending off speculation that he yearned to return full-time to Europe—but in its fifth year the experiment is getting a reappraisal, with seven new expansion clubs and nine new stadiums since Beckham arrived, and a splashy new television deal with NBC.

“There’s no doubt David’s signing was one of the key moments in the history of the MLS,” says league commissioner Don Garber. The Galaxy is one of the league’s top teams, Beckham is playing some of the best soccer of his U.S. career, and in a couple of nights, he and the MLS All-Stars will face off against mighty Manchester United, in town for a stateside exhibition.

It is an unexpected second wind. Beckham is still a name, still a significant global brand, one of the handful of seven-continent superstars in sport. The MLS’s Garber tells of hiking on a remote border of China and Myanmar during the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, and when he told his guide what he did for a living, the guide turned and asked, “How is Beckham doing?” Beckham is deep into his second decade as a spokesman for Adidas, with lines of sport and leisurewear; there’s a fragrance line with his wife (motto: “Intimately Beckham”) and, inspired by his entrepreneurial wife, he has branched out as a designer, with a deal with H&M for an upcoming line of formfitting “body wear.”

“I’m totally involved in everything that goes out there in stores,” Beckham says of his endorsements. “I don’t just sign with a company and give my name to do whatever they want. Everything that goes out there is something I would wear.”

Longevity is even harder to pull off in fashion than it is in sports, but Beckham has managed to stay relevant through his many career evolutions and relocations. Part of this durability can be attributed to his and Victoria’s willingness to ration out personal details of their lives, like in August, when Victoria tweeted out an intimate photo of David and baby Harper cuddling cheek to chest. But there’s also a certain fearlessness.

Sports icons tend to be timid about provocation, but Beckham has been unafraid about taking the occasional, playful risk—posing stripped down to his skivvies for Armani, rolling in the sheets with his wife for a fashion spread. It has helped him remain a step ahead, and just when you think the Beckham persona is starting to fade, there he is, stealing the scene in a top hat and tails at the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton. Beckham is eager to be on the field for his national team when the Olympics hit London in 2012, a possibility that seemed farfetched a few years ago. “I don’t just want to be a coach or manager,” he says. “I want to play.”

A couple of weeks after our meeting in New York, Beckham phones from Los Angeles. For the past week and a half, London has raged with riots. “I think it’s disgusting what’s going on,” he says, his tone turning serious. “The problem is, there is a minority of youth today in England who are not scared of authority. If they steal something, they are not worried about the consequences. When I was a kid growing up I respected elders, I respected the law. If I was on a bus and an elderly lady got on, I would stand up and let her sit down. That doesn’t happen these days.

“We’ve got the Olympics next year and these pictures are being seen all around the world,” he says. “It makes me feel physically sick.”
Social commentary may not be what Beckham is most celebrated for, but listening to his pain, you can hear the maturation from athlete to celebrity supernova to a kind of worldly ambassador. Eventually his body will quit and there will be no soccer, the gray hairs may arrive in a hurry, the shirtless ads might begin to feel unbefitting, and a transformative athlete will try to remake himself once more. This is OK. David Beckham is getting older, but wiser, too.
